Grade 6 comparing is no longer a pair of whole numbers. Ontario expectation B1.3 asks students to compare and order integers, decimal numbers, and fractions. Integers have their own worksheet, with a number line. This printable comparing page is the fraction and decimal half of that expectation. The preview alternates the two. Which is greater, 1/6 or 3/6, is a same-denominator comparison. 1/4 or 1/3, and 1/2 or 3/5, need a common form. The decimals are 0.593 or 0.566, and 0.054 or 0.44, so students cannot trust the number of digits. A last fraction pair, 4/8 or 4/5, looks close until the wholes are the same size. Nothing on the preview asks for a sum.

Why does the Grade 6 comparing page skip whole numbers?
Whole-number comparison is settled in earlier grades. B1.3 at Grade 6 is integers, decimals, and fractions. This sheet is the decimal and fraction comparisons. Integers are linked from the integers topic.
Do students need a common denominator on this sheet?
For 1/6 and 3/6, no. For 1/4 and 1/3, or 1/2 and 3/5, yes. The preview includes both kinds.
How should 0.054 and 0.44 be compared?
Line up the decimal points and compare tenths first. The question is which is greater, 0.054 or 0.44. The number of digits after the decimal is not the size of the number.
