Free CogAT verbal practice worksheets

CogAT · Verbal · Grades 1–8

The verbal battery is the part of the CogAT that uses language, except at the start. In Grades 1 and 2, QuizPrint's verbal set is pictures: an analogy made of drawings, and a set of drawings with one that belongs. From Grade 3 the items are words. A verbal analogy looks like "warm is to hot as cool is to …". Sentence completion leaves a blank in a sentence. Verbal classification asks which word does not belong. Our Grade 3–8 verbal mix also adds logical selection (what must be true) and inference (the most likely explanation). Those two come from our reasoning bank. They are practice beside the usual verbal tasks, not a claim about an official form. The sample on this page is a Grade 5 word set. A Grade 1 link opens the picture set. QuizPrint is not affiliated with Riverside Insights, and these worksheets are not official CogAT questions.

Common questions

When does CogAT verbal practice switch from pictures to words?
Grades 1 and 2 use picture analogies and picture classification. Grades 3 through 8 use word analogies, sentence completion, and verbal classification.
Are logical selection and inference official CogAT subtests?
They are in QuizPrint's verbal practice from Grade 3 because our reasoning bank includes them. This page does not present them as a publisher's form.
